School Committees Adopt Superintendent's Year-End Evaluation
School Committee · Meeting of June 30, 2026
Pelham, Amherst and regional school committees adopt superintendent's evaluation as staff letter rebukes their conduct. More than 27 building administrators and central office staff submitted a letter saying committees had grown "increasingly saddened by the tone of the school committee meetings," alleging Superintendent Dr. Herman and Amherst member Sarah Marshall had been "muted or silenced on numerous occasions." Herman, who announced she will resign effective June 30, 2027, told committees "meaningful evaluation is built on honest feedback, open dialogue and a shared commitment to continuous improvement." Pelham approved her evaluation 4-0; the Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee voted 7-0 to rate a disputed standard "proficient" before adopting the full composite evaluation 8-0, landing on an overall rating of "needs improvement." Pelham member Jenny said she was "deeply disappointed in the behavior" that led to the decision.
Wildwood Elementary's summer program is closed July 1-2 over a broken chiller amid 100-degree heat forecasts.
